For most of my adult life, I’ve savored cheese and coffee as separate pleasures—each with its own quiet comfort. Never once did I think to bring them together. How had I overlooked such a natural pairing? When I think about what complements cheese, my mind usually drifts to wine, beer, or maybe NA options like kombucha.
One morning, out of butter, I reached for what I had on hand: a generous spoonful of our smoked ricotta, spread thick over warm sourdough toast. I took a bite, followed by a sip of my medium roast Precipice Coffee—and something clicked. The coffee’s bright acidity cut through the lush richness of the cheese, cleansing my palate and drawing out the deep, smoky notes of the ricotta. In that moment, I felt the fog of the morning lift. My mind lit up.
Smoked ricotta on sourdough with a drizzle of sriracha has long been one of my favorite breakfasts. But I had never paused to notice how beautifully it played with my coffee. That’s what I love most about pairing—how it invites us to slow down, pay attention, and notice how the flavors on our plate (and in our cup) speak to each other. This one has quickly become a favorite.
