Position: Cheese Packaging Assistant & Dishwasher

Hours: Wednesdays and Thursdays / 15 hours a week to start, more hours offered throughout summer months and as experience is gained. Compensation depends on experience. 

Business description: Crooked Face Creamery is a small batch artisan cheese company. We produce award winning fresh and aged cheeses for retail and wholesale markets, as well as run a brick and mortar specialty foods store. We carry cheeses, meats, provisions and wine from all over Maine and beyond. Our customers want to know where their food is coming from, who makes it, their story, and what makes the products we sell so unique. Solely owned and operated for over 15 years, Crooked Face Creamery is looking to grow it’s team. 

Job description: We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Cheese Packaging Assistant & Dishwasher to support daily operations in our cheese production here at Crooked Face Creamery. This role involves cold smoking our cheeses and butters, packaging finished cheese products, maintaining cleanliness in our production space, and ensuring all dishes, tools, and equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized. The ideal candidate is organized, efficient, understands Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and food safety, along with detailed record keeping and inventory management, and also has a strong interest in cheese!

Responsibilities: 

Cheese Packaging:

• Package cheese products according to company standards and labeling requirements
• Learn cheeses and proper wrapping techniques
• Weigh, wrap, seal, and label cheeses accurately
• Inspect products for quality before packaging
• Learn how to cold smoke our cheeses and butters
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of packaging stations
• Assist with inventory counts and storage of packaged products
  

Cleaning and Dishwashing: 

• Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
• Maintain a clean and organized dishwashing area
• Dispose of waste and recycling properly
• Support overall kitchen cleanliness and sanitation
• Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines

Qualifications:

• Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
• Ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures
• Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods
• Previous food service, production, or dishwashing experience

Crooked Face Creamery
Position: Assistant Cheesemonger

Hours: 15 + hrs week to start, more hours offered throughout summer months. Shop Hours: Wednesday - Friday 10-4pm and Saturday 9-3pm. During the summer months we will be open Sundays as well from 9-3pm. Flexible schedule will be considered. Compensation depends on experience.

Our specialty is our line of Whole Milk Ricotta, specifically our Applewood Smoked Ricotta, which is nationally recognized and distributed to a wider wholesale market. Due to the pandemic, we have shifted our focus to more on retail sales, and expanding our online and brick and mortar store with other local products including Maine cheeses, cured meats, merchandise and provisions. Our customers want to know where their food is coming from, who makes it, their story, and what makes the products we sell so unique. Job description: 

We’re looking for a committed and engaging individual who is passionate about Maine cheese, as well as cheese from all over the world. We are looking for an individual who is excited to work in a retail setting and to handle sales, retail shop operations, and our growing wine department. The Assistant Cheesemonger will play an important role in developing Crooked Face Creamery’s reputation and business through efficient store operations, excellent customer service, production assistance and effective communications.

Responsibilities:

Sales/customer service:

• Develop and sustain an understanding of our cheese, grass fed meats and local provisions
• Thoughtfully engage with our customers and create a friendly environment
• Use and troubleshoot point of sale system
• Field customer special requests and research products
• Deliver cheeses and meats to local accounts
• Contribute to social media and newsletter efforts
• Manage website, recipes page, testimonials, and product descriptions in online store.

Store management:

• Track cheese inventory, including batch numbers, sell by dates, etc.
• Manage product inventory, retail and office supplies including restocking items on retail shelves, preparing orders, placing and tracking orders as needed
• Assist in cutting and wrapping of in-house and bought in cheese if inventory gets low
• Keep a clean workspace, regularly clean and wipe down shop refrigerators and floors throughout the day.

Communications:

• Contribute to weekly newsletter
• Assist in managing content for social media accounts
• Assist in managing website, recipes page, testimonials, and product descriptions in online store.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1 year of customer service experience in a retail setting
• Marketing experience preferred
• Experience operating Point of Sale systems
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Inventory management and record keeping a plus
• Willingess to learn about basic cheese production and varieties of cheese and the makers
• Interest in the dairy industry and small batch artisanal food production
• Self motivated, strong attention to detail and cleanliness
• Food safety experience a plus.
